Synopsis

Motu is one of the dozens of young men, zooming covertly about the coastline by night, retrieving stashes of contraband goods, to be brought back to the village and hidden by the womenfolk, all of whom take pride in constantly outwitting the exasperated local police. But for Motu, pressures are beginning to bite - his father went missing with a cargo of illegal migrants and his pregnant wife and daughter are now Motu's responsibility, while his daring night-time forays grow increasingly riskier... This debut feature by director Ramtin Lavafipour, handles its social realist agenda admirably, providing sequences of real strength and narrative agility, amidst taut tension.
