SALVADOR

Synopsis
In Salvador, Stone provided early evidence of his pre-occupation with stories combining men in extreme situations and political critiques. It's based on the experiences of journalist Richard Boyle (James Woods in a fierce, Oscar-nominated performance), who takes off from San Francisco in a battered car with disc jockey Dr. Rock (James Belushi) and heads for civil war-torn El Salvador. From this situation Stone, working from his and Boyle's Oscar-nominated screenplay, delivers a tale of high drama, intrigue and violence with an unambiguous critique of US interventionism and Ronald Reagan's support of the Contra rebels. The film contains very strong language and very graphic violence.
