THE DARJEELING LIMITED
Synopsis
Estranged brothers Jack (Jason Schwartzman), Peter (Adrien Brody) and Francis (Owen Wilson) have not spoken since their father's funeral. As a result of an accident, Francis feels compelled to reunite them, and devises the idea of travelling by train through India on a quasi-spiritual quest, stopping at key temples and holy places. His real agenda is to find their long-absent mother, Patricia (Anjelica Huston), who abandoned them as children. All three are emotional wrecks, incapable of intimacy or commitment. They travel first-class with enormous amounts of luggage, but are so self-involved that they never 'leave the room', totally oblivious to their surroundings. India becomes only a backdrop as they struggle to feel something special during the religious ceremonies; it is only at the funeral of a young boy that anything authentic is expressed. When Patricia again disappears, they are finally ready to discover the truth of their own lives.
