Geneva, 24 hours in the life of five people, none of whom fits Geneva’s postcard image as a city of privilege: Hans, an old cop exhausted by life and his unexpected divorce; Adé, a young Malian who dreams of becoming a famous footballer, but has to work illegally for now; Momo, who has abandoned his studies and become a garbage collector to support his family in Algeria, but cannot bring himself to tell them the truth. And then there is Claire (Madeleine Piguet), a young Swiss, lost and erring in the night, annihilated by the use of drugs. A chronicle where the destinies of locals and foreigners will collide, between doubt, dignity, indifference, violence and humanity. The film has won five international awards, including Best Female Performance and Silver Hawk for Best Film at the Arab Film Festival, Rotterdam, and Best Director at Spain’s Amal Euro–Arab International Film Festival.

Nasser Bakhti

NASSER BAKHTI was born in 1960 in Algeria and holds Algerian and French citizenship. A graduate of the Mountview Art and Drama School, London, since 1990 he has lived in Switzerland. From 1989–92, he worked for BBC, Channel 4 and ARTE as scriptwriter, producer and director. His films as an independent director include the documentaries Spirit of Zimbabwe in Yorkshire (1992) and Geneva: Mirror of the World (1996) and the TV film The Silence of Fear (1999). Night Shadows is his feature debut.
