QUAMER WORKING TO LIVE
India/2007/Hindi dialogue with English subtitles/Colour/DigiBeta/23 mins.
Quamer, 11, lives with her family in a one-room house in Hyderabad, India. She takes care of the household, cooks and works with her mother, as they decorate bracelets with glitzy fake gemstones. This thankless, low-paid job has damaged Quamer’s thumbs and as she tells us her touching stories we discover that her dream is to go back to school.
“This poignant documentary has been nominated for a Children’s Bafta award in the UK. It will teach older and younger children some great lessons.” – Myrna Maakaron
