In Havana, Cuba, Jorgito (Jorgito Miló Ávila) and Malú (Malú Tarrao Broche) are neighbours, classmates and best friends, even though their families hate each other. Malú’s mother is divorced, religious, rich and snobbish. Jorgito’s parents are socialists, poor and very strict. None of those differences affect the children’s friendship.When Malù’s grandmother dies, her mother decides to go live abroad – a tragedy for Malú and Jorgito. Only one person can save their friendship: Malú’s father, a lighthouse-keeper who lives hundreds of miles away. The children decide to travel secretly to find him and convince him not to sign the forms that would allow Malú to leave Cuba. Chased by the police and their parents, Malú and Jorgito cross the island by train, bus, car, motorcycle and on foot experiencing strange and thrilling adventures.

JUAN CARLOS CREMATA MALBERTI was born in 1961 in Cuba, and graduated from the International School of Cinema and TV in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. His work for children on Cuban television earned him the CARACOL Prize from the National Writers and Artists Union of Cuba. He directed the documentary La época, el encanto y fin de siglo (1999) and the award-winning feature Nada (2002). IRAIDA MALBERTI CABRERA has choreographed and directed many TV programmes for infants and two series for children. She has won several CARACOL Prizes. -
