In Dhaka, the introverted Malik (Tariq Anam Khan) lives alone in his derelict ancestral mansion, now hemmed in by high-rise apartment buildings. Real estate dealer Rafique (Shahidul Alam Sachchu) pesters him daily to demolish his property, making him lucrative offers. The old man is in a quandary, because he is unable to maintain his sprawling premises. Ruba (Sathi Yasmin), his daughter and only child, returns from the US to stay with him. Rafique is persuaded to employ the reformed killer Soleman (Fazlur Rehman Babu) as his gardener, but Soleman soon becomes the target of local toughs. Ruba’s Australian-born cousin Asif (Ferdous) is attracted to her. She finds a friend in Kislu (Humayun Faridi), an eccentric middle-aged neighbour, who dries his brightly-coloured briefs on his balcony.

ENAMUL KARIM NIRJHAR was born in 1962 in Bangladesh. By profession, he is an architect and designer and the prime mover behind a networking initiative between young artists. A self-styled maverick, he is also an award-winning photographer, a writer of poems, short stories, plays and songs, and now a filmmaker. His debut feature AHA! stems partly from memories of the time of war in Bangladesh, which burnt down the house he grew up in.
