NOMADAK TX

Spain/2006/Basque, English, Spanish, Mongolian, Arab, Hindi and Gujarati dialogue with English subtitles/35mm/91 mins

A totally engrossing journey, Nomadak Tx is the story of two intrepid musicians who travel the world on the life force of music and musical sounds, utilizing the Txalaparta, a Basque percussion instrument played by two people simultaneously. They travel through India, Lapland, the Sahara and Mongolia, fusing their specific sound and rhythms with those of remote nomadic peoples. Whether riding a horse in Mongolia, a train in Bombay, crossing the Algerian desert, or skiing in the Arctic Pole, they play the Txalaparta everywhere, making it a tool to communicate the desires of all they meet. Pilgrims in search of sounds, they find them in unique, remote cultures, amongst peoples who will not lose their voice. They are attuned to listen and as they travel the sounds rise up, fusing into musical statements of ever-increasing complexity.

“Nomadak tx is a quintessential road movie. The filmmakers have set out like ancient explorers – to find the purest sound, which rises up wherever they go, like the haunting heartbeat of a primal planet. Sound, beat and cadence call out to those who can hear: ‘We are here. We are alive. We are who we are’”. – Hannah Fisher
