Australian farmer John (William McInnes), irritable, gruff, and solitary, sees a badly beaten woman collapse in his driveway. He reluctantly cares for Tahmeena (Monic Hendrickx), despite her obvious fear and their language barrier. He does not call the authorities, preferring his own independence from the local population. John and Tahmeena slowly begin to communicate, through pictures, words, gestures. As he pieces together her story, he learns about the dark underbelly of Australian society, a subculture he knew nothing about – and a world where life is expendable, and humans are bought and sold. When the outside world inevitably intrudes, they are both put in jeopardy and forced to trust one another for survival.

PETER DUNCAN was born in Sydney, Australia. A graduate of the University of Sydney and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, his films as director are the shorts The Obituary (1993), A Bit of a Tiff with the Lord (1995) and the features Children of the Revolution (1996), winner of three Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards, A Little Bit of Soul (1997), Passion (1999; winner of three AFI Awards) and the television movie Hell Has Harbour Views (2004).
