Samsung partners with DIFF to nurture aspiring UAE filmmakers

Samsung Gulf Electronics and Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced the launch of Samsung’s Short Film Contest; an exciting initiative to stimulate the creativity of aspiring filmmakers across the UAE, and one that will provide one lucky winner with a platform to help launch their career.

Individuals passionate about film making are invited to enter the contest by submitting a film of any length, genres or styles to A judging panel will then shortlist a pool of talented participants to go and create a short film under the guidance of Emirati filmmaker, Nayla Al Khaja. Samsung will also be providing product support, as the shortlisted participants will be required to shoot their short film on a Samsung device.

The short films created will then be showcased at a special screening at DIFF 2014 with one lucky participant winning a trip to the 68th Cannes Film Festival where his/her short film will be screened in The Short Film Corner.

“The Samsung Short Film Contest in partnership with DIFF seeks to provide a launch pad for the talented youth of the UAE to realise their dream in filmmaking. By equipping shortlisted participants with Samsung’s technology and providing expert guidance on creating short films, we hope to open up a world of possibilities for those who take part,” said Mr. Marco Vocale, Head of Corporate Marketing, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

Shivani Pandya, DIFF’s Managing Director added: “DIFF is dedicated to supporting and celebrating upcoming filmmakers and therefore we are thrilled to collaborate with Samsung on this community initiative to find a budding filmmaker in the UAE. There is a huge amount of creative talent here and competitions like this help us discover new and exciting filmmakers.”

To enter the contest, applicants will be required to submit a film of their creation from September 14th– October 12th on:
