DIFF Young Journalist Award 2011

The Dubai International Film Festival is proud to announce the DIFF Young Journalist Award for 2011. The main goal is to provide the Participants have the exciting opportunity to be mentored by experienced international film critics and journalists. This year’s mentor is Colin Brown – formerly with Screen International and freelance film consultant 

As part of the DIFF-YJA programme, participants will attend workshops and panels open to all Film, Media and Communications students in the UAE. Topics covered will include pertinent issues and subjects necessary for a future career in film critique, business and technology writing and also address new media within a journalistic framework.

DIFF-YJA participants will work to a deadline with their mentors and acquire key skills required to cover a film festival. Select writings from the daily assignments will be featured in the DIFF Daily, the festival’s official newspaper and an opportunity to be published in Screen magazine. 

At the end of the programme, the mentors will present the DIFF Young Journalist Award to the participant that demonstrates outstanding talent, commitment and promise for a future career in the industry.

To apply to the DIFF Young Journalist Award: 

  • Students in Journalism must send a short story that best highlights his/her writing skills.
  • Students in Mass Media, Communication Art and Film Study must send in two to three pictures that he/she found interesting and will be judged internally.
